Alle fünf Jahre wird ein neuer Nationalrat gewählt – was aber in der Zwischenzeit passiert, bleibt meist im Dunkeln. Durch den ganzheitlichen Ansatz namens somes möchte die Projektgruppe Desinformation (kontrolliert oder unabsichtlich), algorithmischen Filterblasen, Korruption und Politikverdrossenheit entgegenwirken, indem sie parlamentarische und regierungsspezifische Aktivitäten, Prozesse und Informationen niederschwellig zugänglich macht.
Die ursprüngliche Idee für somes stammt von Clemens Bauer. In seiner Rolle als Schulsprecher wurde ihm bald bewusst, dass seine Arbeit für viele nicht nachvollziehbar war. Zu häufig hörte er Sätze wie: „Die machen doch eh nichts“ oder „Da passiert nichts“. Dieser Eindruck entstand nicht aufgrund fehlenden Engagements, sondern aufgrund mangelnder Transparenz und der Schwierigkeit, Außenstehenden die Möglichkeit zur aktiven Beteiligung zu geben.
Dieses Problem ist jedoch nicht auf die Schule beschränkt. Ähnliche Herausforderungen zeigen sich auch in der österreichischen und europäischen Politik – insbesondere in nationalen Parlamenten wie dem Nationalrat. In der Zeit zwischen Skandalen und Wahlen, die eigentlich entscheidend ist, hört man nur wenig von der Politik – gerade diese Zeit bleibt im Dunkeln. Transparente Prozesse und einfach dargestellte Entscheidungen, senken das Risiko von Korruption.
somes begleitet die Demokratie in eine demokratische, transparente Zukunft und bietet eine Orientierung in der aktuellen Informationsflut. Relevante Informationen zu Tagespolitik, Gesetzesänderungen sowie demokratischen Initiativen werden in einer Website vereint und gleichzeitig soll der Austausch der Abgeordneten mit der Wählerschaft gefördert werde. Im Laufe der Zeit präzisierten sich die Ziele und Features, die die Plattform bieten muss. Ziel ist, am Ende einer Legislaturperiode zu wissen, welche Partei oder Person am besten zu einem passt.
Every five years, a new National Council is elected—but what happens in the meantime remains largely unknown. Through its holistic approach called somes, the project group aims to counteract disinformation (controlled or unintentional), algorithmic filter bubbles, corruption, and political disenchantment by making parliamentary and government-specific activities, processes, and information accessible.
The original idea for somes, a platform for political transparency, came from Clemens Bauer. In his role as school representative, he soon realized that his work was incomprehensible to many. Too often, he heard phrases like, "They don't do anything anyway" or "Nothing's happening." This impression arose not from a lack of commitment, but rather from a lack of transparency and the difficulty of giving outsiders the opportunity to actively participate.
This problem, however, is not limited to schools. Similar challenges are also evident in Austrian and European politics—especially in national parliaments such as the National Council. In the crucial period between scandals and elections, one hears little about politics—it is precisely this period that remains in the dark. Transparent processes and simply presented decisions reduce the risk of corruption.
somes accompanies democracy into a democratic, transparent future and offers orientation in the current flood of information. Relevant information on current politics, legislative changes, and democratic initiatives are brought together on one website, while simultaneously promoting dialogue between representatives and the electorate. Over time, the goals and features the platform must offer became more precise. The goal is to know at the end of a legislative period which party or person is the best fit for one.

Um somes umzusetzen, ist vor allem ein motiviertes Team erforderlich: Lukas Zöhrer (*2005) ist für die mobile Applikation zuständig, Tim Herbst (*2006)für Data-Science und Statistiken und Florian Nagy (*2006) für das Web-Frontend, das Backend und die Datensammlung. Die drei haben das Projekt im Rahmen ihrer Diplomarbeit an der HTL Hollabrunn umgesetzt und werden die Plattform in Zukunft in Form eines Vereins weiterführen und umfassend verbessern. Der Verein soll zusätzlich Podiumsdiskussionen, Bildungsreisen und sonstige überparteiliche politische Events organisieren.
Implementing somes requires, above all, a motivated team: Lukas Zöhrer (*2005) is responsible for the mobile application, Tim Herbst (*2006) for data science and statistics, and Florian Nagy (*2006) for the web frontend, backend, and data collection. The three implemented the project as part of their diploma thesis at HTL Hollabrunn and will continue to manage and comprehensively improve the platform in the future as an association. The association will also organize panel discussions, educational trips, and other non-partisan political events.
Die Website somes ist ein politisches Teilhabetool und bietet einen niederschwelligen Zugang zu vielfältigen politischen Daten. Sie leistet dadurch einen erheblichen Beitrag zur Stärkung der Demokratie – die Dringlichkeit und Relevanz ist offensichtlich. Der Impact dieser Plattform ist bei entsprechender Verbreitung voraussichtlich enorm hoch – bei Jugendlichen wie Erwachsenen.
somes will Nutzer*innen helfen, informierte Entscheidungen über die Wahl von Abgeordneten oder Parteien zu treffen und den politischen Dialog fördern. Das Projekt vermag die politische Bildung zu verbessern und die demokratische Teilhabe aller Bürger*innen zu stärken.
Informationen können mit einem Klick eingesehen werden und sind klar, übersichtlich und einfach zugänglich aufbereitet. Die Anzahl von Tools, die für somes eingesetzt werden – von PyTorch bis Rust – ist schwindelerregend und zeugt von bedeutsamen Webentwicklerfähigkeiten. Die Kombination aus durchdachter und gut designter Datendarstellung über deren Analyse bis zu spezifischen Funktionen, wie dem Wahlhelfer, ist überzeugend. Die Navigation ist intuitiv und politische Prozesse werden in Echtzeit greifbar. Auch die Transparenz der Quellen, die den differenziert dargestellten Daten und Informationen zur Seite gestellt sind, zeugt von einem verantwortungsvollen Umgang mit der Aufmerksamkeit der Nutzer*innen und dem ehrlichen Interesse, nicht in eine Richtung zu politisieren.
The somes website is a political participation tool and offers low-threshold access to a wide range of political data. It thus makes a significant contribution to strengthening democracy—its urgency and relevance are clear. With sufficient distribution, the impact of this platform is expected to be enormous among young people and adults alike.
